Windows Vista was great and it is why Windows 7, 8 and 10 exist, it made some big changes to the code, which caught the hardware companies out with poor drivers.

Helmuth WeidlingI didn't notice you posted until I scrolled down (curse you, notifications!). A lot of people complained about Vista's lack of compatibility with XP-era hardware. To be fair, Microsoft could have at least tried to make Vista compatible with XP drivers, but it was mostly the OEMs' fault. They had 5 years to write drivers and yet they slacked off, and played the victim card when called out on their bullshit.

Apple took the opportunity to mock Microsoft with their "Get A Mac" ads. Their computers cost a kidney or two even back then, no better than Vista.

Helmuth WeidlingAlso: if you use Windows 8 or newer, I would highly recommend a program called Classic Shell. It stopped development, though, so you might want to get OpenShell, an open source continuation of Classic Shell. (CS still works though and it's still downloadable) It replaces the Start screen/W10 Start Menu with a highly customizable Start menu. I cusstomizef mine to look like the Windows 7 menu. Not that I dislike the 10 menu, but I prefer the 7 menu more.

Probably one of my favorite things about Vista is its Start menu. It looks like the 7 start menu, however the power options look different. Its a shame that there's no true Vista-like menu for 10; you could modify Classic/Open Shell to look like the Vista menu, but it's little more than a reskinned 7 menu.
